What is Microdermabrasion?

MicrodermMicrodermbrasion is one of the most popular aesthetic procedures performed today, and is used by many plastic surgery practices as part of a goal-directed skin care regimen. At the Aesthetics Center of the Connecticut Plastic Surgery Group, we use these medical-grade silica crystals and a gentle vacuum to remove the dead, outermost layer of skin. The skin exfoliation process reveals new, living skin cells that are soft, smooth and receptive to nutrients.

What conditions does it treat?

Microdermabrasion is used to treat and/or diminish:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Acne-prone skin
  • Oily skin
  • Blackheads
  • Whiteheads
  • Dry or patchy skin
  • Superficial age spots
  • Hyperpigmentation

I thought a lot about going ahead with my procedure and researched endlessly, until I decided on going to Dr. Vasquez. I can only say that he was fantastic and I'm very happy with he results! He was very reassuring throughout the entire process and his staff is great as well. Would highly recommend to anyone and will spread the word!

Why choose Microdermabrasion?

You should choose microdermabrasion because it is a safe, non-invasive, and virtually painless procedure when employed by trained individuals. Microdermabrasion is an excellent alternative to lasers and chemical peels. Compared to these harsher treatments, the benefits of microdermabrasion include:

  • Less pain or discomfort
  • Minimal risk
  • Suited for all skin types
  • No anesthesia needed
  • No recovery time
  • No hazardous chemicals

The microdermabrasion procedure is performed under the supervision of a certified professional and the direction of Dr. Vasquez, a board-certified Plastic Surgeon and a member of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS). You can be confident that we will treat you with the utmost care.

How does it work?

The procedure is performed by using a handpiece that the operator passes over the skin two or three times. This method evenly removes the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin.

The underlying epidermis is also stimulated by the abrasion and the vacuum. This promotes the generation of new collagen, which thickens the dermis and improves resistance to the effects of aging.

How many treatments will I need?

Your skin care specialist will advise you regarding your unique skin care needs, but the typical patient receives 4-6 treatments spaced 7-30 days apart. The average procedure itself takes less than 30 minutes, depending upon your skin condition, the area to be treated, and the desired outcome. Your skin care professional can also add various treatments, facials, and/or soothing massage depending upon your skin care plan. Microdermabrasion is fast, predictable, and painless: the perfect lunch hour peel. The expert staff at the Aesthetics Center may also recommend other combination treatments such as laser or a facial treatment that may enhance a microdermabrasion treatment in order to give you the results that you hope for.

Is microdermabrasion safe?

Microdermabrasion is one of the most trusted and sought-after procedures for improving skin tone and texture. It is the 4th most performed procedure according to the latest statistics by the American Society of Plastic Surgery, only behind Botox, Fillers, and laser hair removal. With more than 15 years of success in the USA and nearly 30 years in Europe, microdermabrasion has been used to treat millions of satisfied people.
