The Cutera CoolGlide difference

The Cutera CoolGlide laser under the Xeo platform is designed to provide permanent hair reduction therapy in patients of all skin types, from fair-skinned to dark-skinned people. Its unique design, longer wavelength, and effective cooling system effectively removes hair in an effective and safe manner.

How does the CoolGlide treatment work?

The Cutera CoolGlide or Xeo system glides across your skin as it cools and soothes the treated areas. When a pulse of energy is delivered to the hair follicle, some patients experience a snapping or stinging sensation that is very tolerable. Usually no anesthetic is typically required. A numbing cream can be applied as recommended by Dr. Vasquez or his staff in very sensitive areas. However good sensory feedback is welcomed to ensure safe and effective treatments.

How many treatments will I need?

Most areas require 3-6 treatments spaced 1-2 months apart. This is due to the inherent nature of hair growth and the various growth cycles hair follicles undergo. Not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually progress through 3 distinctive phases. Therefore it is important to treat the hair bearing areas in different stages to ensure treatment of all the hair follicles. Treatments spaced too close together are often counterproductive. Certainly, individual results vary, but Dr. Vasquez or his qualified staff can provide you with thorough evaluation and recommendation.

How do I prepare for hair reduction treatments?

To make your treatments pleasurable and efficient, we recommend shaving on the day or day prior to your appointment. Small hair growth or “stubble” can make the treatments less efficient or more uncomfortable. If there is any question, we can shave the areas for you. Avoid any topical creams or antiperspirants or antideodorants in those areas prior to the treatment as well.

What are the possible side effects?

Side effects are rare. However redness and swelling can occur, but usually only last several hours or less. In very rare instances, blistering can occur. Typically no local anesthetic or pain medication is needed and the pain is minimal or non-existent. Our staff can discuss any risks or benefits.

How does the CoolGlide compare to electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a tedious, painful, and invasive treatment that involves placing a small needle into each individual hair follicle, delivering an electrical charge one at a time. Thus you may need years of treatments at regular intervals. The CoolGlide is more effective by treating hundreds of follicles for each pulse in just seconds.
